Temporary Rumble Strips strips are high-quality polyurethan strips that are placed on the road surface of a lane. The Rumble Strips are used to alert road traffic to the approach of road works and a road narrowing. They are mainly intended for inattentive drivers and drivers who speed and ignore or have missed advance warnings.

The rumble strips are placed in a row of 3 offset from each other, which creates an unevenness that gives the inattentive motorist a tactile warning and "wakes up". As a result, the strips provide higher safety for road users and protect the so-called action vehicles, arrow trucks or impact attenuators against collisions.

In the Netherlands, the tempory rumble strips, an invention of a department head of Rijkswaterstaat, were put into use on a large scale in 1988. This was one of the reasons for a sharp decrease in the number of collisions with arrow wagons and crash absorbers.
